The memorization of space, explored individually or collectively, is often studied through drawings. The act of drawing is an externalization process that involves cognitive and heuristic aspects of the mental map. More generally, it requires specific thinking skills and creativity. Everyone, to varying degrees, is likely to use drawings, not only for the purpose of recollection, but also for exploration and communication. Spatial cognition and geography have long used this simple process which is widely shared and easy to set up. If individual memorization processes are investigated in numerous studies, only few of them focused on the processes and strategies that underlie the act of drawing, especially with several people.

In this context, many questions can be addressed:

-       How does the drawing process work?

-       What are the skills involved in the design process? What about the creativity?

-       What are the contexts and supports for its experimentation?

-       How do the temporalities involved in the understanding and the memorization of a space interact with the temporalities involved in the drawing process?

-       What is the relationship between spatial and temporal memorization in both the experienced space and the drawn space?

-       How does the process of symbolization take place in the drawing?

-       What is the proportion between conventional symbolization and symbolization specifically designed for the occasion?

-       How do we handle the accuracy of the drawings? For what purposes? According to which criteria?

-       What role do trials, “errors” and/or modifications play in the creation of the drawing?

-       Regarding collective drawing, to which extent does each participant contribute?

-       What are the drawing strategies according to whether the space was practiced in a fixed or mobile way?

-       How does the planning of the drawing unfold between the present moment of the drawing and the future of the actions to be carried out?
